whirlwind

keith and i had a bit of a whirlwind weekend. well, really, whirlwind day and a half.

my oldest friend, carly, was on the outer banks with her family and friends. a couple of weeks ago she asked me if we wanted to come out to visit them during their trip. umm. a visit to OBX and i get to see an old friend?! we quickly responded, "hell yes." we ended up going out friday night and staying until saturday. we left greenville on friday afternoon earlier than we expected, so we thought we'd stop at our most favorite place, outer banks brewing station [OBBS], for a beer and some grub. this worked out kind of perfectly as carly and co. were busy getting ready [showers, etc] to head out for dinner themselves. after our separate meals, we met them back at the house they had been staying at in corolla. it was wonderful to spend the night catching up with carly [and sean], meeting and hanging out with their friends, and just relaxing at the beach.

we slept in on saturday before heading out to the beach around lunchtime. it was a warm and sunny day. the water was chilly, but felt great on a warm day. there was a slight breeze. it was restorative to the soul.

unfortunately we could not stay all day, as we had to get back to greenville. [we had tickets to ECU's first football game of the season.] on our way off the island, we made two quick stops at a couple of other favorite spots, the good life and trio. we crammed in as much as we could in 20 hours at the OBX. even though we will be back in 2 weeks [fucking yay!]. we got back to greenville kind of late due to our stops, but we did make it to the football game! ECU played old dominion in a night game and won our home opener. it was an offensive battle and a very good game to watch. our seats were amazing and there is something spectacular about a night game. the atmosphere is electric.

go pirates!!! ARRRGGH.

come sunday, we were exhausted. we slept wayyyy in. i had a migraine [ugh]. so, i guess that was my body's way of letting me know she was very tired. i listened and rested all yesterday. why not?

having an extra day off was welcomed and much needed. we took care of business around the house and for work. and now, this long weekend has come to an end. rest and relaxation never seem long enough.

welcome home

this blog is a long time coming.

sorry for the delay.

as you know, keith and i have moved back to greenville. some think we are crazy. a party-happy college town known for it's unsettling amount of crime and lack of things to do. however, greenville has this feel of "home" to us. when we returned, it felt like we never left. we kind of feel like we are picking up where we left off. our previous living adventure here was pretty monumental for us. i completed two degrees. keith became a doctor. we adopted 2 pets. we got engaged and married! greenville is really kind of a big deal to us.
with all that said, i feel like i should be studying or heading off to class. seriously. i really want to sign up for summer school. is that ridiculous?
plus, an added bonus, greenville has really grown up since we've been gone, which was almost 2 years, by the way. there are lots of new restaurants all over town, they are working very hard to restore and revamp downtown, there is signage all over town to guide you through the metropolis that is greenville. the crime seems to be slightly more under control. but, we are in eastern north carolina, crazy lives here. so when we moved back, finding a safe neighborhood was extremely important.
there are things to do around here, you just have to look for it. with it being a small town, usually everyone is going to the same events, like baseball games or the arts festival downtown or getting excited about graduation! and because we live in a small town, we don't get swallowed in a million things, events, places, people to see, do and visit. we have the time and motivation to see it all. for example, keith and i went to the driving range 2 weekends ago. we've never done that in raleigh. raleigh had numerous driving ranges available to us all the time. we never went. greenville has one. well, one public driving range. we've already been and will probably go back. also, we want to go strawberry picking. again, something else raleigh had to offer us. it was activity we never discussed doing.

perhaps your location also changes your mentality of life and activity. i feel like here, in greenville, it is easier to see things. it's easier to know what is around us, the good and the bad. there is less noise and distraction. we can get involved in strawberry picking or hear about heroin use in a wal-mart parking lot. it's easier for us to see our surroundings. we're almost forced to. you see it and hear about it, whether you want to or not. it's pretty much how small towns work. what else are we going to talk about? whether that is good or bad, it's for you to decide.

the moral of the blog? we are happy here. greenville fits us. ecu fits us. and you are welcome to visit anytime you want. because the only thing missing in greenville are all the family and friends we left behind.

once a pirate.....

ECU called….and we answered.

Keith received an amazing job opportunity with the ECU physical therapy department to work at one of their outpatient clinics. So, naturally, he said “hell yes”. And thus, we are moving. IN THREE WEEKS.

And the best part of it? We found out yesterday that the rental home that we had locked up, mmmm almost a month ago, just fell through. Fucking super.

So now we have a bit of a living arrangement emergency. We can’t stay in Raleigh and bunk up with family or friends, because we are moving to Greenville for a fucking reason.  A JOB. Which starts on april 8^th. So, like, we have to be there. Well, keith does. I don’t have any work relate responsibilities anymore. So I could bunk up with family and friends and hell, he could just live in his car, right?

But seriously, we now have 3 WEEKS to find a place to live and to move. I could easily flip the fuck out about this. But for some reason, I have remained calm. I guess because flipping out would be useless. Flipping out would not help me find a house any faster. So, I am keeping calm and moving on.

Our first rental home fell through for a reason. There was a reason we weren’t supposed to live there. Where ever we end up, will be a better fit…I just know it.

We are really excited about this move and this opportunity for keith. We loved everything about ECU and our time in Greenville during graduate school. Plus Greenville has really grown up over the past 2 years. So, really, we are excited!

I’m just bummed that we are now having to deal with this huge speed bump. But once we get to Greenville, I’ll share another blog of me just reveling our excitement…I just know it!
