post MUD RUN

we did it.
we started and finished the MUD RUN. it was everything we hoped it would be. it was muddy. it was dirty. it was wet. cold. challenging. fun. scary. surprising. full of obstacles. a volunteer told us that there were 26 obstacles on this 6 mile course. we didn't keep count. but it sure felt like 26 obstacles.
what was awesome about it was that we were a team of four. four mud-slinglin' pirates. and we stayed a team of four. for the entire 6.2 miles. this was especially helpful on the challenging obstacles. like when we had to climb log walls or cargo nets. or when we were in water, chest deep and had to jump over logs that where 1-2 feet out of the water. we motivated each other to keep going and we had fun. our goal was to finish. in any amount of time.

the reason we chose to participate was simple: mom. keith's mom. we ran to support her fight against MS. by participating in this event we had the opportunity to fundraise for the MS society as well. between keith and i we raised $550!!
THANK YOU to everyone who supported us. we couldn't have done it without you.

and now, i would like to share with you some of our muddy pictures.

These are the BEFORE pictures:

unfortunately most of the course was off in the woods, so it was hard for spectators to follow us around. the only pictures of us actually "doing" the obstacles are the last few, that were not in the woods.

we had just jumped from a 10 foot high platform into a pool of mud. delish.

after almost 6 miles...we're still pretty excited.
chris and keith tackling the mud hill.
i am not impressed. at all.

the mud hill leads you to a mud bath.
and another mud hill....
this was a very HUGE mud hill. we're sitting a the top.
that is our SPLASH after sliding down the best slip-n-slide EVER.

last obstacle: crawling through some pipe. filled with water.

these are the AFTER photos:
YAY! we did it!

we'll see you next year. seriously. it was exhausting. but totally awesome.

mud run MS

as promised, here is some more information about the MUD RUN!!!! short, sweet and to the point.

event date: september 24th

location: stem, nc (fort bunter, nc)

time: the race begins in "race waves" at 9am. basically this means that a group of people start at a particular time. this way not everyone is starting at the same time and causing everyone to get trampled. in mud.
our "wave" starts at 10am.

team: MUD SLINGING PIRATES as if we'd be on a team that wasn't associated with pirates. pssffft. check out our page. join our team. donate money, whatever.
seriously, you can do all of those things. or none of them.
if you want to participate with us...AWESOME! now go join our team! hurry!!!!!
and if you'd like to be our cheerleaders and come watch this ridiculous spectacle, we'll see you in a few weeks. just make sure you're wearing some pirate gear. fo' real.

donations: the hook with this event is that we have to raise $100 each to even participate. say whaa??! but it's for an amazing cause that is near and dear to our hearts. so, we can dig it. and that is where you come in! if you'd like to donate (and we know you would!) to either myself or keith, you can do so by going to our team page, MUD SLINGING PIRATES, and clicking on our names.
and here is a direct link to my personal page.

just so you don't think i'm yanking your chain...here's why we MUD RUN:
keith's mom, barbara has MS. every year we participate in WALK MS to create awareness, advocacy, and fund raise for a future without MS. this year we wanted to do something a little different. the MUD RUN is very different. and a little crazy. but we're gonna have a great time while we support one of the most amazing, strong-willed women i know. she supports us in everything we do, this is the very least we can do for her.

info: here are some links to additional resources.

if you want any additional information or you have any questions/comments/concerns...just let me know! i'll be happy to answer them for you.

thank you guys for your support! :)

muddin'

keith and i have decided to do the MS mud run.

it is a boot camp style run.
this means mud. dirt. obstacles. costumes. it will be slippery and sloshy. and oh yeah, its 6 miles.

but it's all for a good cause. to support the National MS society!

once we get registered and have a team and everything, I'll post the information for you guys.

but back to the event. it's on september 24th. we decided 5 weeks prior to such a race that we are going to run a 6 mile race. scratch that. a 6 mile muddy race. if i had to run 6 miles tomorrow, i'd never make it.
the good news: we've made a training plan to get us to 6 miles by the 24th. plus, this is a race with obstacles. so it's not a traditional race. so when i get tired, i'll have a stopping point to climb through a pit of mud 6 feet deep. or something restful like that.

the bad news: it's a 6 mile race filled with muddy obstacles. what the hell have i signed up for?! so basically this kind of race is just prolonging the agony of the race.

but let me be real with you guys for a minute...and only a minute, so read fast. but seriously, i have been trying to find motivation to get back into exercising for months. and i couldn't find it anywhere. i wasn't motivated to do anything. running? boring. biking? no thanks. swimming...when it's 100 degrees? that doesn't sound refreshing...i'll pass.

by registering for an event or race that you want to do or are excited about....you become MOTIVATED!!! i am motivated to get moving and running! and to get my body into shape and to be healthier.
now, i am slightly scared about this race. but also excited. it's a team event. plus it's designed to be fun. they encourage costumes for crying out loud. so it's going to be a big sloppy mess. and it's going to be awesome.

so, i am inviting all and any who want to come watch this ridiculous mess that will make all mom's cringe at the thought of the clean up.
